What you need to know about Monkeypox
Up until now, many of you wouldn’t have ever heard of monkeypox. This virus is a member of the same family as chickenpox and smallpox. Monkeypox is a rare infection that is usually found in parts of west/central Africa. Although we have seen recent media coverage with cases now in the UK.
Monkeypox can be caught from infected rodents (such as rats, mice and squirrels) but also from person to person through touching clothing, bedding, towels. Touching monkeypox skin blisters, scabs or the coughs and sneezes from an infected person.
As of the 7th June there are 321 confirmed monkeypox cases within the UK, with 305 in England, 11 in Scotland, 2 in Northern Ireland and 3 in Wales.
Things you can do to avoid getting monkeypox
The number 1 thing you can do if you are concerned about monkeypox is to regularly sanitise with a good quality sanitiser, do not have close contact with people who are unwell and may have monkeypox, as well as staying away from wild or stray animals or animals which appear unwell.

The monkeypox viral infection is caused by an enveloped virus which belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus.
Our test data includes EN14476 A2:2019 which demonstrates efficacy against ALL enveloped viruses (of which monkeypox is one). As the monkeypox virus and vaccinia virus are very closely related, this is a particularly relevant comparison.
